«In many situations in life, it takes great strength to achieve moments of inner calm. But the greater the strength required, the more important the pursuit. On the path of the occult, everything depends on the energy, inner truth, and complete sincerity with which the disciple is capable of contemplating himself and all his actions, as if he were facing a completely unknown person. (...)
When a man stands before himself as a stranger, he nevertheless observes only himself; he sees the experiences and actions he has been connected to through the particular conditions of his life. He must overcome them. He must rise to a purely human point of view that no longer has anything to do with his specific situation.
He must begin to consider things that would concern him as a human being in general, even if he lived in completely different circumstances, in a wholly different situation. In this way, something is awakened in him that transcends the personal element.
He thus turns his gaze toward higher worlds than those with which he comes into contact in everyday life, and then begins to feel, to experience, that he belongs to such higher worlds.»
