Sobriety, Presence, and Responsibility in Managing Subtle Energies
Responsibility in the management of Subtle Energies
Sobriety, Responsibility, and Intent as the Foundation for Managing Subtle Energies
Today, the Reiki Method is one of the most well-known and widespread "natural healing" practices in the world, likely because of its simplicity and effectiveness. Reiki itself does not directly heal, but rather channels energy that helps individuals restore their natural self-healing abilities.
Reiki is effective, simple, and fast: all it takes is to meet a Reiki practitioner, whether a First, Second, or Third Level practitioner, to benefit from one or more treatments. Alternatively, one can meet a Reiki Master to become, permanently, a channel for Reiki energy themselves.
The world is diverse, and so are Reiki Masters: there are sober and well-prepared practitioners, as well as those who are unprepared, careless, or even fanatical. Given that Reiki is a path of freedom, self-discovery, and personal growth—a journey to becoming more present and conscious—the lack of preparation or the presence of fanaticism is not only out of place but also risks becoming a trap, leading one astray.
Throughout many years of teaching, I have encountered a wide range of Reiki Masters. While some have brought me joy with their dedication and presence, others have left me frustrated due to their lack of responsibility and depth.
Often, the students reflect the quality of their teacher. I feel a sense of sadness whenever I meet Reiki students who are confused, lost, and have had a poor experience during their Reiki seminars. This leads me to a crucial question: why do many people not listen to themselves? Why do some fail to do what they are capable of and instead perform poorly? Perhaps it's because some manage to create a charismatic aura around their own emptiness and existential void. It seems that some people convince themselves they are true masters to hide their own deep-seated (and sometimes unconscious) feelings of inadequacy and frustration.
Energy Is Not a Game: The Role of the Master
The universe is a layered web of interconnected energies. There is much more to this universe than what our physical eyes can perceive and our reasoning can comprehend. If a shoe vendor sells us a defective product or charges too much, it is considered exploitation or, at worst, a scam, but it’s not a tragedy.
However, in the realm of Energy and Spirit, there is far less room to act carelessly without incurring serious evolutionary responsibilities. Reiki is a powerful transformative force. For this reason, it must be used with great respect, kindness, patience, and clear awareness.
The fact that many Reiki Masters today can be "trained" in just one day is not only absurd but also laughable. What guarantee of preparation, self-work, or presence can such individuals offer to their students? And what happens if a student needs specific answers during a crucial moment of their transformation in a Reiki seminar? How does such a "master" respond? Do they invent answers, or do they avoid the questions altogether?
It seems to me that these types of "masters" first deny to themselves the obvious fact: the enormous energetic and spiritual responsibility they are taking on towards their students, who have chosen them as guides for important steps on their path to knowledge. Of course, the master does not take the steps on behalf of the student; in fact, they should be the first to empower the student to make their own decisions, with the aim of fostering autonomy and responsibility.
A true Reiki Master does not need to govern people's lives; they do not want to dictate how others should live. Instead of constantly telling the student what to do or how to act, a true Reiki Master encourages the student to reconnect with themselves, to open up to awareness, and to develop their sensitivity and intuition, until they access their own spiritual consciousness. However, this does not absolve the teacher from the sacred duty of being energetically and spiritually present during a Reiki seminar.
This energetic and spiritual presence can only be achieved through years of self-work, listening, challenges, struggles, determination, cultural deepening, self-care, and sensitivity to the various energies present in the universe. A one-day or weekend course does not make anyone a true Reiki Master. In the complex world of energy, there is no room for casual improvisation. One must take responsibility for dealing with a reality that, being invisible, can also be very dangerous.
