ENERGETIC PROTECTION AND DEFENSE:
TIPS FOR EFFECTIVELY LIVING PROTECTED
FROM THE DANGERS OF A PREDATORY WORLD
A good Reiki practitioner is, above all, someone who approaches the person seeking treatment with sobriety, kindness, and an open heart; someone who, with full presence and awareness, listens to the other person and expresses a loving and respectful attitude. However, to continue being a "good practitioner," a Reiki operator must first and foremost take care of themselves.
This includes listening to oneself, taking time off, eating well, resting adequately, cultivating an optimistic attitude, working on personal growth, and more.
BECOMING INACCESSIBLE
Another critical thing a Reiki practitioner should do is become inaccessible: learning not to open oneself up to unwanted and unnecessary energetic residues. In Reiki, as we know, it is quite easy to heal others naturally, as the energy, being intelligent and aware, knows what to do and how to do it.
Since every symptom is a message the body sends to itself, the effectiveness of the treatment depends on how much the person, deep down (beyond their mental processes), allows themselves to heal by activating their resources based on the awareness achieved.
But to be effective "natural energy healers," one must be able to connect with oneself, open up to introspection—because one cannot perceive anything in another person that they haven’t first perceived in themselves. One must dare to work on themselves to transform and strengthen both the physical body and purify the emotional body, eliminating as much as possible their own energetic residues, so they can treat others without becoming contaminated in return.
When performing a treatment, an energetic connection is established between people, and while Reiki itself is pure, the two people involved in the energetic action cannot be disregarded. The energetic influence is mutual, capable of producing effects in both the giver and receiver of energy. Just as being around a happy person can quickly make one feel joyful, being near a depressed person can just as easily cast a shadow over one’s mood.
The emotional exchange between individuals is always real, and it is crucial to become conscious of what is happening. When sudden emotions or sensations arise, the practitioner should determine how much of it is their own and how much they are picking up from the other person. The human body naturally defends itself at all levels: for instance, when entering a smoky room, one may start coughing and tearing up as the body reacts to the toxic elements. Similarly, subtle energies can trigger a reaction, sometimes deeply unsettling. Yet, these reactions are often not recognized for what they really are—encounters with "negative" energies—but are instead rationalized to fit within the safer bounds of known experiences.
THE "CONTAMINATION"
For a Reiki practitioner, it is important to maintain detachment and clarity while treating others, ensuring that they do not contaminate the recipient with their own energy, nor become contaminated in return. The issue of "contamination" is greatly overlooked in social and healthcare settings: those who institutionally take on the pain and suffering of others are not equipped—because they are not taught how—to deal with the accumulation of not just emotional but also energetic residues that build up over time.
Once their energetic resources are depleted and they continue to absorb negative energy from patients, they themselves often become ill.
INFLEXIBLE INTENT, DISCIPLINE, INNER SILENCE: TRAINING FOR DETACHMENT
Working in the field of helping others, whether as a traditional medical practitioner or in natural disciplines, is not just about acquiring the right techniques. It is essential to dedicate time and intent to strengthening oneself and gaining the necessary detachment to protect one's own health. A teacher should go far beyond mere technique and even surpass the impatience of students—who want everything immediately. They should encourage their students to invest time and consistency in learning and applying techniques to coordinate and strengthen the physical, emotional, and energetic bodies, much like in certain martial arts, in order to develop detachment while maintaining full presence.
Visualizing a protective light around oneself is a good practice, and there are many variations of this technique; however, it is not enough, as it risks becoming a superficial mental excuse, just another way of "telling oneself a story." An effective protective barrier is not created by a simple mental act; it is the result of practice, effort, discipline, and inflexible intent. The more energy one can channel through training, the more impenetrable the barrier becomes.
Contamination can come from various external energetic imprints, whether human, environmental, or alien. The cleaner one is—from their own emotional and mental clutter—during treatment (and this applies to all areas of life), the more they are shielded from attracting certain "negative" energies by resonance.
Purification simply means good food, good sleep, good relationships, good thoughts, good words, and good actions, among other things. In addition to purification, to prevent energetic contamination, it is essential to train in detachment. This is not merely an intellectual concept. Only disciplined individual training (both physical and mental) can prevent a practitioner from attaching to others' existential dramas like leeches.
In the face of negative energy, a Reiki practitioner should be like a powerful dam.
This detachment requires far more effort than a simple visualization or expression of will. It also requires effort to overcome resistance acquired through socialization, which may be experienced as guilt—feeling guilty for being cold and detached. The detachment being discussed here is similar to the one expressed by those who, while assisting terminally ill patients, are completely detached from each individual yet remain fully present.
The detachment discussed here is never coldness but rather an art of not fooling oneself, the art of not indulging in personal importance, which would otherwise say: "I care about others, I sacrifice myself for them!!!" This detachment is also about respect. Even while doing one's best to help others, it is important not to feel guilty if the results are not always as expected. It is essential not to feel frustrated if the recipient of the treatment offers energetic resistance.
Respect in this context means not forcing an energetic procedure when the recipient (even unconsciously) does not want to be helped or is not ready at that moment to sustain a certain awareness of themselves. It is not right to compel someone to accept help, no matter how good or wonderful it may seem. A person has free will: they can choose. Insisting on helping someone at all costs, in the name of altruism, generosity, or cooperation, can become a form of misguided benevolence, which highlights personal importance, arrogance, and excessive self-involvement. The constant inner dialogue is a significant waste of energy and limits perception.
Working actively to achieve a state of inner silence allows one to maintain a higher state of awareness. Avoiding negative thoughts or images (such as the fear of being at risk of contamination) at all costs, and focusing disciplined, silent attention on detachment, is an attitude that should be practiced regularly until it becomes second nature. This practice itself forms a powerful defensive barrier: the boundary of respect. Creating, maintaining, and strengthening energetic integrity is a matter of discipline and intent. Eliminating personal importance is the most effective way to confront negative energy. Achieving this inner transformation, which allows individuals to better respond to negative energy and develop their creative potential, requires work, time, and intent.
