THE REIKI SYMBOL - THE TRADITIONAL REIKI PICTOGRAM OR KANJI

KANJI REIKI

Some time ago, it was written that Reiki, its symbol, and therefore the energy that the entire method conveys, are connected to very low energies coming from a dark dimension, which supposedly binds the Reiki practitioner (the one who has been initiated into Reiki) to long-term, unpleasant consequences.

Along the same lines, it has been claimed that the symbols drawn on the hands for activation act like seal-locks, allowing energy to flow only toward the source of the person who activated the Reiki practitioner, granting them power.

I believe such considerations can be fundamentally regarded as baseless!

Here below is a reproduced document circulating online, signed with a pseudonym: "Felis Catus." In the text, comments from REIKI INFO have been added in parentheses and in blue color for clarity.

THE TRUE MEANING OF "REIKI"

"...Here is the true meaning of "REIKI" in the Japanese language, based on the best dictionaries consulted (which ones?) and after a thorough discussion with a Japanese individual (who?), a Master of Oriental Martial Arts, who also holds a degree in Ancient Japanese History and specializes in Eastern esotericism and the history of Japanese black magic. Even some Chinese people, randomly met in a Chinese restaurant, expressed doubts. Although they couldn't fully interpret the ideograms (exactly...), (as they were arranged according to Japanese syntax), at first glance, accompanied by a grimace, they stated that for them this writing represented a "green devil" or a "green smoke devil" or something similar. It's unclear what they meant and what a "green devil" represents for the Chinese: it would require further investigation, but I'm not sure how useful that would be. In fact, the Japanese ideograms used in "kanji" writing are (originally and typically) the same as those used by the Chinese, but the language's usage and different historical traditions have changed the meanings (so, what are we talking about?).

The aforementioned Chinese, after discussing among themselves for a long time, pronounced the expression as "LingChi," where "Chi" (pronounced "ci") stands for "KI," meaning energy, spirit, vital breath, etc., and "Ling" represents the soul of the deceased and stands for "REI." But in truth, the corresponding Chinese ideogram for the sound "Ling" is different from the Japanese one that indicates "Rei." In the Chinese dictionary, there is no ideogram exactly corresponding to "Rei," which is most likely a kanji of distinctly Japanese construction. (same as above).

However, remaining strictly within the realm of the Japanese language from which this expression originates, it is worth noting that the same "Rei" ideogram, when associated with the "En" ideogram, REIEN, means "cemetery" (traditionally the most suitable place for performing certain rituals...) (It's like saying that the word "high" associated with "speaker" gives one meaning, while associated with "Alpine" gives another: truly fascinating... You could do this with thousands of words: even Frank Arjava Petter, while investigating the origins of Reiki in Japan, found himself chasing a truck with the Kanji Reiki drawn on it, only to discover, out of breath at the traffic light, that it meant REFRIGERATING ENERGY, as it was a cooling company’s truck).

To further confirm this, the word REIKAI means "World of the Dead," "Realm of the Dead." The "REI" ideogram is the same. Now we ask ourselves: if REIEN means "Cemetery," or "Garden of the Dead," and REIKAI means "Realm of the Dead," then WHY does "REIKI" (where the "REI" ideogram is the same) have to mean "Energy of the Universe"? In fact, the word "Universe" in Japanese is represented by a completely different ideogram, pronounced UCHU. Thus, "Energy of the Universe" would be said "UCHUKI," combining the ideograms "UCHU" and "KI." This is also confirmed by a Japanese teacher who has been teaching Japanese language in Italy for years. (who?)

In reality, the expression "REIKI" means "Energy of the Dead..." (So indeed, in reality, REIKI can mean dozens of different things, depending on what you want to focus on: energy of the ancients, transcendent energy, cosmic energy, spiritual energy. That’s all, nothing strange. Unless one insists on seeing something strange at all costs).

In conclusion, a convinced esotericist might say: "Exploitation, through black magic rituals and energetic vampirism, of the lower zones of the astral plane" (With serious "karmic" effects). Of course, even the energy of the dead is part of the universe's energy, just as all the water on earth is still water. But where do you choose to drink: from a mountain spring or from the sewage drains? ...” (True: the same logic applies to information as well!)

(Felis Catus) A name truly brimming with credibility!

Chinese and Japanese share some ideograms, as Japanese kanji are derived from Chinese characters, but they are two different languages. Is it really possible that all the Japanese people who practice and have practiced Reiki cannot read? That would be quite strange. The Reiki Kanji signifies many things at once, a true macrocosm that can be simply summarized in the words Universal Life Energy (because energy is always in motion and transformation).

Beyond many words, Reiki offers another interpretive key (or better yet, a perceptive one): sensitivity.

Approaching the Reiki Kanji and simply perceiving it—with your hands, with your eyes, with your heart—gives a wonderful sensation of LIFE!

The Reiki Kanji vibrates, and those who are open to perceiving it energetically, beyond any mental prejudice, will feel that this vibration speaks of Creative Energy, Harmony, Freedom, Joy, Love, Intelligence, and Strength.
