THE ABANDONMENT OF WILLIAM LEE RAND
In Italy, the old Karuna Reiki of the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) by William Lee Rand was taught until 2021, with official ICRT representatives spread worldwide, including Italy.
Suddenly, in 2021, the ICRT decided to suspend all representatives worldwide (those who acted as intermediaries between teachers and the ICRT for educational materials and registration of new teachers) for Karuna Reiki.
Previously, William Lee Rand had upgraded the old Karuna Reiki to Holy Fire® III Karuna Reiki®, even claiming (unfortunately, sic.) that online initiations were more powerful than those conducted in person.
Without representatives, a teacher of the old Karuna Reiki was left adrift. No longer recognized by the ICRT, they could no longer receive educational materials, certificates, or register new teachers. Many teachers trained in the old Karuna Reiki wrote emails to the International Center, but received no response. Silence! How was it possible that a teacher who had legitimately taught the old Karuna Reiki for 5, 10, or 20 years was suddenly prevented from continuing, without any clarification? Mysteries of the ICRT...
Various requests for clarification on how to continue spreading the method outside the USA went systematically unanswered. The ICRT website (www.reiki.org) states that those wishing to become a teacher of the old Karuna Reiki must attend all of their courses directly in the USA and be supervised in teaching their courses by trainees. This effectively blocks any foreign teacher, as meeting such new requirements would demand considerable financial commitment and a significant amount of time. Additionally, the ICRT offers only a few slots to complete such training.
In simple terms, those who had regularly taught "Karuna Reiki®" in Italy for years now find themselves in a state of irregularity if they wish to continue. Moreover, the ICRT no longer provides any educational materials nor registers new teachers trained in Italy. The old Karuna Reiki has been made impractical in Italy, as well as in other countries outside the USA.
Whatever the ICRT may invent in the future regarding the Italian situation, Dario Canil and other Reiki teachers believe that the ICRT has shown a clear lack of respect for Karuna practitioners worldwide, as well as an unacceptable level of "professionalism."
The registered trademark of the old "Karuna Reiki®"
has been disabled in Italy since 2007
The "Karuna Reiki®" registered trademark has not been renewed in Italy since 2007, so it has formally lapsed since then. Practitioners, however, were told it was regularly registered by William Lee Rand.

In light of these considerations, Dario Canil, with the suggestion of the excellent former representatives for Italy Adriano and Judith Rosso, sought to clarify the "Karuna" energy.
Dario Canil considered how to help those hundreds of teachers of the old Karuna Reiki escape the deadlock, freeing the Karuna practice from all the unnecessary American embellishments, pointless bureaucratic delays, and sought to elevate the method to a higher energetic level by incorporating four powerful symbols (Sonten, Mana, Dai Shin Rei, and Kahuna).
Thus, the Advanced KARUNA® REIKI Method was born.
