How the Advanced Karuna® Reiki Method Was Born
THE ORIGINS OF THE ADVANCED KARUNA® REIKI METHOD
The Advanced Karuna® Reiki Method is a Reiki system developed by Dario Canil, based on his 25 years of experience teaching Usui’s original Reiki (23 years of old Karuna Reiki) and the use of various channeled symbols found in well-established non-original Reiki traditions, such as Tera Mai, Karuna, and Tibetan.
The energy channeling system known as Karuna originated in the USA through the spiritual exploration of Kathleen Milner and Marcy Miller, followed by the insights of William Lee Rand on Sai Baba Reiki, the original name given by Milner and Miller to their innovative method. These two teachers, having asked the universe for guidance on how to make their Reiki practice more complete and effective, received instructions from a specific spiritual guide initially identified as Sai Baba. Later, this guide was recognized as an even higher entity and was renamed Buddha. This Master guided them in discovering new symbols and a renewed initiation procedure.
Due to legal issues related to the name of the well-known Master from Puttaparthy, who lived from 1926 to 2011, Sai Baba Reiki was soon forced to change its name.
What we now identify as "Karuna" initially came from its creator, Kathleen Milner, who passed on her Sai Baba Reiki system, now known as Tera Mai Reiki™, to various teachers, including Glenn Derrick and Rosy Naor. Derrick, in turn, trained William Lee Rand as a Master of Sai Baba Reiki, who then transformed the method and registered it in the USA as "KARUNA REIKI™".
The Israeli Rosy Naor named her system "KARUNA." The North American Vincent Paul Amador learned "KARUNA REIKI™" from Lyn Nickel, a student of Rand, and the "KARUNA" and "TERA MAI REIKI™" systems from Rosy Naor, naming his own version "KARUNA KI."
In Italy, Dario Canil, a student of Rand, in 2022, after 25 years of practicing Usui’s original Reiki and 23 years of KARUNA REIKI™, in response to Rand’s controversial organizational decisions that left all non-US practitioners stranded, decided to expand the method by adding four incredibly powerful symbols, revising the initiation procedures, and greatly simplifying the bureaucratic aspects surrounding the protection and correct dissemination of Karuna energy.
This is how the "ADVANCED KARUNA® REIKI METHOD" or "ADVANCED KARUNA® REIKI" was developed in Italy. In 2022, Dario Canil registered the Karuna Reiki trademark in Italy. Everyone who attends a course in the Advanced Karuna® Reiki Method is guaranteed to receive the same symbols, the same healing energy, identical activations, and original educational materials.
Why did the old Karuna Reiki collapse outside the USA?
William Lee Rand and the International Center for Reiki Training essentially abandoned students and teachers worldwide, focusing solely on the United States. This page explains how the transition from the old Karuna Reiki to the Advanced Karuna® Reiki Method occurred.
The 16 symbols of the Advanced Karuna® Reiki Method were channeled by various Reiki teachers: Marcy Miller (Zonar, Halu, Harth), Kellie Ray Marine (Rama), Marie Abraham (Gnosa), Kathleen Millner (Kriya), Catherine Mills (Iava), Pat Courtney (Shanti), and Dario Canil (Sonten, Mana, Dai Shin Rei, and Karuna).
KARUNA LINEAGE:
The energy of the Advanced Karuna® Reiki Method differs from Usui Reiki in that it allows for more targeted and differentiated work. Its vibrational quality is extremely high, similar to Usui Reiki, and, as in Usui’s method, the amount of energy emitted is directly proportional to the openness of the heart, connected to the operator's willingness, fluidity, and presence.
The Advanced Karuna® Reiki Method is not antagonistic or an alternative to Usui Reiki; rather, it is complementary and a valuable enhancement.
In practice, the operator often finds satisfaction and effectiveness in using symbols from both methods.
